A myth and the truth

the myth is scarcity

The interview with Shauna Niequist was one of the most powerful parts of the Influence Conference for me. I was scribbling notes like crazy, and this one jumps off the page at me, even now:

“The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.”

The context was creativity, and how we need more writers, musicians, jewelry designers, painters.

But it rings true in so many other places.

We are tempted to feel lack, to grasp and scramble and strive. Speak these words over any place where a sense of lack and fear steals contentment and joy: “the myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.”

There is enough time for everything important.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

When you feel left out and forgotten, know that there are people who accept you; there are places you belong.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

No matter your financial situation, Psalm 37:25 is for you:

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

If you’re single and don’t want to be, the “good ones” are not all taken.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

When you feel isolated, know that there are people who “get it.” Don’t believe the lie that you’re alone.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

The good opportunities aren’t all taken. You might be too late for someone else’s opportunity, but you’re right on time for your own.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.

When you feel inadequate, like you have nothing to offer, know that the world is missing out when you play small.

The myth is scarcity; the truth is abundance.
